We also made a journey to Sumbawa in May to witness a most remarkable event: the launch of a 40-metre-long, 150-tonne, wooden pinisi schooner that took 18 months to build and was puled into the sea by man and machine off the beach in Wera and straight into the annals of Indonesia’s maritime tradition.
