From backyard feasts to beach snacks, your favorite summer eats can stir up digestive trouble. Here's how to keep things running smoothly so you can enjoy all the fun without the discomfort.
Cool heartburn... with a book break
Next time post-meal heartburn flares up, lie on your left side as you catch up on your summer page-turner. Researchers in the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology suggest that this relaxed position may help prevent troublemaking acid from creeping up from your stomach into your throat 62% more effectively than lying on your right. That's because reclining on your left positions your stomach below your esophagus, reducing the likelihood of acid rising up while helping your body process the meal that set things off.
