We all have internal money scripts that stretch back years, reveals behavioral economist Etinosa Agbonlahor. That's why, before you can talk finances, it’s important to first reflect on your own biases, she says. “How were you raised—with a sense of abundance or scarcity? I'm a saver, for example, but that’s not the case for everyone. Some people spend today because they feel insecure or unstable with money—like it won't be there tomorrow. Just knowing that we all have different perspectives will help you broach a money conversation with empathy.”
