Oxytocin is primarily known as the hormone of love, but it is also the hormone of body composition," says cardiologist and New York Times bestselling author William Davis, M.D. Research in the journal Nature proves it. And although Dr. Davis is still working on human trials, he can extrapolate some powerful findings from his preliminary studies. Here, he walks us through the idea in his new book, Super Body. Boosting oxytocin begins in the gut, where trillions of “good” bugs reside. “The idea that we can restore a microbe to the human GI tract that then triggers your brain to release a steady stream of oxytocin—that’s revolutionary,” he says. “Science has evolved. It’s telling us there are smarter, safer ways to reshape your body than conventional dieting.”

Dr. Davis’ new strategy

Don't rely on temporary hormonal blips from a quick hug or kiss. “Strive for around-the-clock boosts in oxytocin that we get by restoring proper bacterial microbes now missing from our guts.”
