Sitting across from my date, I couldn’t help but feel excited. It was August 2016, and I’d met Samantha, then 40, after matching on a dating app a few weeks earlier.
At 29, I’d started to understand my sexuality, and I decided to change the preference settings on my dating app. After going on a few dates with women, I was discovering who I truly was. Now, meeting Samantha for the first time at a rooftop bar in London, there was an undeniable connection. We shared the same sense of humour, and we were both ambitious in our careers.
Samantha told me more about herself, how she was a mum to two children, Francesca, then three, and Harrison, one.
‘Oh,’ I said, surprised. I hadn’t known she was a mum, and wasn’t sure how to react. I hadn’t been looking to start a family, and I didn’t even know if I wanted one!
