Coronation Street and Emmerdale come together for the first time in a special episode featuring death and carnage on a stormy road between Weatherfield and Hotten

Kick-starting Coronation Street and Emmerdale's new 'power hour' schedule of half-hour weekday episodes, one-hour special Corriedale celebrates both soaps, with some of the cast from each drama caught up in a disaster following a multi-car pileup, which not everyone will survive. We chatted to four of its stars.

'WE WERE STOCKED UP WITH CHOCOLATE'

Along with other guests from Debbie and Ronnie's wedding, David and his pregnant wife Shona are passengers in a minibus caught in the accident. 'It's difficult to come up with a story that would see an entire street end up in The Woolpack or vice versa. This neutral ground is much easier - it's the casts literally crashing into each other.

David remains calm in the accident. It's only at the hospital that it starts to go wrong. With stunts, I try to get as close to me dying as possible, so it looks real. In the past, I've got clipped by a car or almost drowned and passed out [laughs]. On the night shoots, we were fully stocked up with chocolate and Haribo, which kept us happy. It was good to work with [Emmerdale's] Emma Atkins. I also went into The Woolpack off camera.'
