GOOGLE DATA CENTER IN FORT WAYNE NOW OPERATIONAL AS COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT CONTINUES

Google’s $2 billion data center campus in Fort Wayne, Indiana, has begun operating, marking a new phase in a project that local officials and company representatives have described as part of broader infrastructure growth for digital services and artificial intelligence workloads.

The facility, developed over the past year and a half in northeast Indiana, adds to Google’s expanding network of data centers that support cloud services, search, email, productivity tools, and AI-related operations.

The center, which had been under construction since at least April 2024, is adjacent to Adams Center Road and Paulding Road on the southwest side of the city. The campus, internally known as Project Zodiac in planning filings, has been part of ongoing discussions with local residents and authorities over land use, energy infrastructure needs, and environmental considerations. Representatives from Google and local partners have scheduled informational presentations to outline how the facility’s operations intersect with community plans and utility systems.

Google initially announced the Fort Wayne data center investment in 2024, with state and local government officials highlighting its significance for the region’s economic landscape. At the groundbreaking ceremony, Indiana Governor Eric J. Holcomb and Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker emphasized the project’s role in attracting technology infrastructure and jobs to the area, noting the anticipated creation of roughly 200 direct positions tied to data center operations such as technicians, security, and support roles.
