OpenAI has rolled out an update to ChatGPT that adds support for Apple CarPlay, allowing drivers to interact with the AI assistant directly through their vehicle's infotainment system.

The integration enables hands-free conversations, letting users ask questions, request information, and generate responses without needing to pick up their phone.
The move extends ChatGPT beyond smartphones and desktops into the automotive environment, where voice interaction is often the safest and most practical mode of use. With CarPlay embedded in millions of vehicles worldwide, the update introduces conversational AI to a setting traditionally dominated by navigation, calls, and music controls.
CHATGPT ENTERS THE DASHBOARD
With the new support, ChatGPT appears within the CarPlay interface much like other compatible apps. Drivers can launch the app from the dashboard display and interact via voice commands, using their car's builtin microphone and speakers.
Instead of relying solely on predefined voice assistants for directions or weather updates, drivers can now ask broader, more nuanced questions — from summarizing news topics to brainstorming ideas during a commute. The AI can respond conversationally, adapting to followup prompts in real time.
