INDIA ACCOUNTS FOR 44% OF U.S. SMARTPHONE IMPORTS IN Q2 2025 AS TARIFFS DISRUPT GLOBAL SUPPLY CHAINS

India has rapidly emerged as a dominant source of smartphone imports into the United States, accounting for 44% of all units shipped in Q2 2025, according to new trade data reviewed by industry analysts.

The shift reflects a major restructuring of global supply chains as U.S. tariffs on Chinese-made electronics accelerate the realignment of production bases across Asia.

The milestone marks the first time India has approached parity with China in U.S. smartphone import share, with analysts citing a 240% year-over-year increase in Indian smartphone exports driven by production from Apple, Samsung, and other key manufacturers. The numbers underscore the success of India's government-backed manufacturing incentives and the growing reliance of global tech companies on the country as an alternative to China.

TARIFFS TRIGGER GLOBAL MANUFACTURING REALIGNMENT

The surge in Indian smartphone exports follows the continuation of U.S. tariffs on a wide range of China-made electronics, originally introduced during the previous administration and reaffirmed with adjustments in 2024. Smartphones assembled in China now face steeper import duties, making it less financially viable for companies to export to the U.S. from traditional facilities in Shenzhen and Guangzhou.
