NEXT-GEN SERVICE FOR ADVANCED PERSONAL DEEP ANALYSIS AND COACHING
-
Apple has long transformed raw sensor data into life-enhancing insights, and the dream of an AI-powered health coach may be almost here. The company's Project Mulberry is designed to leverage Apple Watch metrics (heart rate variability, sleep stages, activity patterns, and ECG readings) to deliver tailored nutrition plans, recovery advice, and more.
TRAINER IN YOUR POCKETSet to be one of the biggest health innovations since the launch of the Apple Watch, Apple envisioned building a “virtual doctor on your phone” or “personal trainer in your pocket”, blending on-device Apple Intelligence with user surveys, lab integrations, and educational videos produced in a dedicated Oakland studio. Yet as of early February 2026, Apple has quietly scaled back the project, opting for a more pragmatic path: folding select AI-driven features into the existing Health app rather than launching a standalone subscription service. This pivot, reported by Bloomberg and echoed across tech outlets, arrives amid fierce competition from nimble rivals like Oura and Whoop, whose apps already offer compelling, actionable AI coaching. Services chief Eddy Cue, who assumed oversight of Apple’s health division following Jeff Williams’ retirement, reportedly deemed the full Mulberry vision, internally dubbed Health+, less competitive than anticipated. Cue’s directive: move faster, prioritize core enhancements, and avoid overcommitting to a premium tier that might alienate users already fatigued by subscriptions.
The result means no grand unveil or new monthly fee, just incremental, privacy-first upgrades woven into the free Health app ecosystem that billions already trust. This story is from the February 20, 2026 edition of AppleMagazine.
