Foxconn has confirmed a cyberattack affecting its North American operations after a ransomware group claimed it had stolen a large volume of sensitive data tied to major technology clients.

FOXCONN CONFIRMS CYBERATTACK AFTER DATA THEFT CLAIMS

The incident adds to growing concerns about supply chain vulnerabilities as manufacturers become prime targets for cybercriminal groups.

The attack was linked to the Nitrogen ransomware operation, which alleged it extracted 8 terabytes of data and more than 11 million internal files from Foxconn systems. The company acknowledged the breach and said emergency measures were implemented to contain the disruption and restore operations.

imageNETWORK DISRUPTION AND PRODUCTION IMPACT

The incident first became visible when employees at Foxconn’s Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin facility reported a widespread network outage that disrupted internal systems. The outage forced temporary shutdowns across parts of the production line, halting operations while the company investigated the cause.

Such disruptions highlight how tightly integrated digital systems are within modern manufacturing. Production lines depend on network connectivity for everything from inventory tracking to equipment control, meaning a cyberattack can quickly translate into operational downtime.

Foxconn stated that its response teams acted immediately, activating internal protocols designed to isolate affected systems and maintain continuity where possible. Production at impacted facilities has since resumed, though the full scope of the disruption remains under review.

The Nitrogen ransomware group claims it accessed and exfiltrated a substantial amount of data, including internal documents and technical files. According to the group, the material includes information related to major clients such as Apple, Nvidia, Intel, Google, and Dell Technologies.
