Apple is reassessing its long-term roadmap for an artificial-intelligence-powered health coaching platform, choosing to scale back an earlier plan for a standalone subscription-style wellness service while continuing to integrate key technologies into its existing health ecosystem.

The initiative, internally known as “Mulberry,” was originally envisioned as a comprehensive digital health coach capable of delivering personalized fitness, nutrition, and behavioral recommendations powered by advanced Al models and user-generated biometric data. Instead of launching the full platform as a new service, Apple now plans to distribute many of the underlying capabilities gradually through updates to the Health app, Apple Watch software, and related wellness features across its devices.

The decision reflects a broader strategic recalibration in how the company is approaching consumer-facing artificial intelligence, particularly in areas involving highly sensitive health data where regulatory scrutiny, clinical validation, and user trust remain critical factors.

STRATEGY SHIFTS FROM STANDALONE SERVICE TO PLATFORM INTEGRATION

Earlier internal plans reportedly envisioned a dedicated Al health coaching product that could function similarly to a subscription-based digital wellness advisor, analyzing continuous biometric inputs such as heart rate, sleep patterns, activity metrics, and potentially nutrition or behavioral data. The system would have delivered ongoing coaching guidance, adaptive exercise recommendations, and lifestyle suggestions generated through predictive modeling.

By shifting toward incremental feature integration, Apple can bring portions of that technology to users faster while reducing the risk associated with launching an entirely new health-focused subscription offering. Rolling capabilities into the existing Health app also allows the company to build adoption gradually, test performance at scale, and refine algorithms using real-world usage patterns without committing to a major service debut tied to a single release cycle.
