Veteran eager to play on

JOSH STILL HAS WORLD DREAMS

EXETER City skipper Josh Magennis has told Northern Ireland boss Michael O’Neill he’ll be “fully ready to go” for his country’s next World Cup qualifying campaign at the age of 35.

Magennis was a surprise omission from the friendlies against Switzerland on Friday night and Sweden in two days’ time, with O'Neill explaining that he wanted to run the rule over the next generation of strikers.

But the ex-Wigan forward, whose goal in a 3-1 triumph over Greece helped his country qualify for their only major finals (Euro 2016) since 1986, has outlined how hungry he is to create more international memories.

With 82 caps, Magennis is four short of breaking into Northern Ireland’s top-10 appearances list.

His tally of 12 goals, meanwhile, places him just one short of only being behind David Healy and Kyle Lafferty on the nation’s top scorers’ leaderboard.

And such milestones remain in Magennis’ sights.
