90 years on from the famous thought experiment's conception, researchers have broken a crucial barrier in quantum physics

In a breakthrough for quantum physics, scientists have managed to create a Schrödinger's cat state at unusually warm temperatures.

Named after physicist Prof Erwin Schrödinger, who devised the now-famous thought experiment, the Schrödinger's cat principle in quantum mechanics represents the idea that particles can exist in two states at once. It's also known as quantum superposition.
