APPRENTICE CAROLE STEVENS CAMERA: CANON EOS 70D
Known to her friends for always being the one with a camera, Carole studied A-level photography, and got her first DSLR when she was working at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. However, in recent years she's fallen out of the habit of taking photos, and is looking for some help to get her mojo back. She says she's never really got beyond the basics of using her DSLR, and wants advice on how she can move on from relying on auto settings.
TECHNIQUE ASSESSMENT
Rebecca met up with Carole in Royal Victoria Park in the city of Bath, and started out by showing her how to set up her camera to capture outdoor
AUTO TO AV MODE
Carole was used to relying on Auto mode because she didn't feel confident adjusting the exposure settings, so Rebecca showed her how to use Aperture Priority mode for more control. "To help Carole control her aperture for nice-looking portraits. I got her using Av mode," she says. "Setting a wide aperture of around f/4 will enable her to get sharp subjects with blurred backgrounds, which helps the subject stand out."
