Supercharge your skills

Photography is a personal journey and anyone looking to refine their skill set will no doubt benefit from a very specific regime tailored to a specific genre and their own preferences. However, all photographers need to practise the basics and brush-up their skills. But, with ever-changing camera technology and the pursuit of pushing oneself to the very limit, you could argue that no photographer ever truly conquers these core pillars.

If you’re relatively new to photography then these are the things you simply cannot ignore and will help to open a whole new world of advanced techniques for you to explore. If you’re a seasoned photographer, your core skills will already be very adept, but we reckon it’s always worth revisiting the foundations. You could write a book on photography basics, so we’ve prioritized a small selection of, what we consider to be, the most important tips of all.

Whether you keep capturing photos that are slightly blurry, struggle to lock focus on moving subjects, find yourself completely confused when faced with depth of field, think you’re relying too heavily on the rule of thirds, never manage to be in the right place at the right time or completely avoid even booting up Photoshop for fear of feeling completely overwhelmed, then read on.

And if you’re struggling to get your head around a more specialist technique, you might just find that revisiting the basics helps you to decipher some altogether more advanced skills.
