The APOY judges choose their favourite images that didn't make the top ten of our Movement category
-
Ailsa McWhinnie, APOY project manager, chooses U-Bahn, Berlin by John Seager, Bristol
Ailsa says: 'The movement in this image by regular entrant John isn't restricted only to the blurred yellow strip of the underground train as it passes through the station – and the frame – though of course that's the scene's focal point. There's dynamism in the composition too, thanks to the jagged red railing that takes our eye down the steps from right to left, and also to the blue ovals that take our eye round and round, and also frame the solitary figure. John has controlled what could have been a chaotic scene very well indeed, including plenty of information about the noisy, intense environment without the end result being overpowering. His timing is perfect too, exemplified by the front train carriage almost – but not quite – heading out of frame. Excellent seeing and storytelling.'
Jessica Miller, deputy online editor, chooses Myllykoski Rapids by Mats Carduner, ParisThis story is from the January 27, 2026 edition of Amateur Photographer.
