Torquay’s ‘full focus’ is now on play-offs, says Wotton

MANAGER Paul Wotton said “it's blinkers, full focus for Saturday” after the Gulls finished second behind champions Truro City in the race for the National League South title.

- RICHARD HUGHES richard hughes@reachplc.com

In the end, after Torquay won 4-1 at Hemel Hempstead Town, but Truro beat St Albans City 5-2 in Cornwall, it came down to goal difference, with the Gulls finishing on the same points as Truro, 89, but two goals shy of their goal difference.

So now Torquay will play the winners of tomorrow night's Eliminator A play-off between Boreham Wood and Dorking Wanderers at Plainmoor on Saturday - with a possible Plainmoor final on the cards if they win against one of Eastbourne Borough, Worthing or Maidstone United. Basically, win two home wins and Torquay go up.

Wotton said: “For 46 games they have given everything. It’s a strange mixture of emotions at the minute. ‘The dressing room is actually a little bit down, which is fine, I get it and understand it. But ultimately, today, it wasn’t in our hands. We did our job but Truro have done their job and congratulations to them.
