Maximise the potential of maize this season

Dairy farmers are encouraged to maximise this year's maize crop potential to boost home-grown forage stocks for winter.

Following a challenging year for maize in 2024, Steve Symons, Regional Business Manager at Lallemand Animal Nutrition, advises farmers to make the most of this year's favourable growing conditions by focusing on crop nutrition and harvest timing.

"Crops seem to be growing well, unlike last year when many farmers struggled," he says. "To maximise potential, proactive crop management is essential. Good quality maize silage will be crucial in winter rations, especially with lower energy first-cut grass silages."
