A WOMAN who stabbed her partner to death has been given a life sentence for his murder.

- DAVID POWELL

Joanna Katarzyna Wronska, 51, of Pentre Gwyn, Wrexham, must serve a minimum term of 15 years and four months, a judge said.

Wronska stabbed Marcin Koziol to death in a “drunken temper” at their home in Pentre Gwyn before washing the knife in the kitchen sink.

At Mold Crown Court, His Honour Judge Rhys Rowlands told Wronska she had been extremely drunk and it had been a “momentary, explosive loss of temper on your part”. He said: “It goes without saying this was a tragic loss of a man’s life and a dreadful waste of your immediate future.”

Wronska showed no reaction as the sentence was handed down.

The defendant had denied the killing in October 2023, insisting that her 40-year-old victim had previously self-harmed and attempted suicide.

But after a nine-day murder trial, a jury of six men and six women at Mold Crown Court returned a unanimous verdict of guilty last month. At the time, the judge said: “I have no doubt that drink is at the root of your problems.”

The jury had heard that a former partner of Wronska, Januse Zdunek, claimed she had stabbed him several years ago and that she had allegedly told him he was "lucky she hadn't stabbed him in his heart".

In the case involving her later partner, Mr Koziol, emergency crews were called to Wronksa’s home in Pentre Gwyn, Caia Park, Wrexham, on October 23, 2023, at about 6.15pm.
