VETERANS remembered, city leaders paid tribute and care homes celebrated with vintage flair as Bristol joined nationwide events marking eight decades since Victory in Europe.
-
Bristol commemorated the 80th anniversary of VE Day yesterday with a series of events honouring the sacrifices and resilience of those who lived through the Second World War. From a solemn flag-raising to nostalgic tea parties in care homes, the city came together in remembrance and celebration.
A ceremony was held at College Green, where the Union Flag was raised and Peaches Golding OBE CStJ, Lord Lieutenant of Bristol, read the official proclamation. The event was attended by veterans, service personnel and civic leaders, including Councillor Tony Dyer, leader of Bristol City Council.
