SMALL HOTEL Theatre Royal Bath

SMALL Hotel, starring Ralph Fiennes and Francesca Annis, is a mesmerising hymn to imperfectly lived lives and the redemptive power of love. It's also at times very funny.

Fiennes plays Larry, a fading chat show host, opening with him in a bloodstained shirt performing a bit of a soft shoe shuffle in a bar as he prepares for an evening of speed dating. The bar is staffed by Ava (Rachel Tucker), a one-eyed Liverpudlian lounge crooner, his shadow throughout the play.

From that strange beginning the drama drifts into a series of vignettes from Larry's life, each of them marked by a burst of syncopated tap dancing against a dreamscape of lights and black and white projections.
