VIMC bets on new maritime plans to sail offshore
Vietnam Investment Review
|March 09, 2026
As Vietnam deepens its integration into global supply chains and prepares for new trade opportunities, the strategic direction of Vietnam Maritime Corporation (VIMC) will be critical in shaping the country's maritime future.
-
Nguyen Canh Tinh, the company's new chairman, gave VIR's Bich Thuy his insights into its recent performance as well as future priorities.2025 could be considered one of the most turbulent years for the maritime and logistics industry in recent years. The industry is simultaneously impacted by global geopolitical tensions, significant fluctuations in freight rates, restructuring of shipping alliances, as well as constantly changing international tariff policies and environmental standards.
Domestically, a series of new port projects have been invested in, upgraded, and put into operation, significantly increasing oversupply and competition.
VIMC has increased integrated logistics contracts, connecting seaports, inland container depots, road transport, and inland waterways, thereby improving service quality, retaining existing customers and attracting more new customers within the ecosystem.
It has also tightened cost controls, standardised standards, promoted automation and energy saving, and accelerated digital transformation with port operation management systems, fleet management systems, and electronic service portals.
In terms of results, despite fierce competition in port operation, we have increased market share at international gateway ports; operational efficiency at key ports has significantly also improved. Our port system now handles and provides services to all of the world's top 10 largest container shipping lines.
