Ukraine stunned by assassination of Andriy Parubiy
The Sunday Guardian
|August 31, 2025
Andriy Parubiy, who once served as Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament and played a pivotal role during Ukraine's most turbulent political transitions, was assassinated in Lviv on August 30.
The attack, carried out in broad daylight by a gunman disguised as a delivery courier, left the nation shocked and grieving. Witnesses reported that the assailant opened fire multiple times before escaping on an electric bicycle. Authorities immediately launched a nationwide manhunt under "Operation Siren" to capture the killer.
President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the assassination as a "horrific murder," vowing that all state resources would be dedicated to bringing the perpetrator to justice. "There are no completely safe places in a country at war," Zelensky warned, urging citizens to remain vigilant.
