The Trinamul Congress, which will be sitting in the Opposition benches after 15 years in power, has placed its trust in experience while simultaneously sending out a strong message on women's empowerment as it put together a new parliamentary team.
Senior party leader Sovandeb Chattopadhyay has been appointed as the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly. A seasoned parliamentarian and one of the party's most trusted faces, Chattopadhyay’s elevation is being seen as a move to ensure stability and effective floor coordination at a politically crucial juncture. A veteran of state politics, Chattopadhyay had won from Bhowanipore in the 2021 Assembly elections but vacated the seat to facilitate Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s return to the Assembly through a bypoll.
