CBI moves HC seeking death penalty for Sanjay Roy

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today moved Calcutta High Court seeking capital punishment for Sanjay Roy, convicted in the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case.
This move comes after the West Bengal government also filed a petition seeking the death penalty, challenging the lower court's order of life imprisonment. During the hearing before a division Bench comprising Justices Debangshu Basak and Sabbar Rashidi, the CBI also questioned the state government's right to file such a petition.
