AI, a boon or bane - debate IT honchos as job loss scare haunts lower-rung IT employees

Fifty thousand IT jobs lost last year and many more expected to vanish as AI adoption and its disruptive nature is the fear gripping the IT industry workers.

This is especially true at the moment in India's Silicon Valley that witnessed huge IT job losses recently, including mass sackings in Infosys, that made headlines across the country.

Recent media reports talk about further layoffs in the IT and ITES, especially in the lower-rung programmers, software testers, which has sparked off fresh fears among workers. Few instances of fall in rentals is being ascribed to this job loss scenario, which is farther from the truth, if IT top honchos and experts are to be believed.

IT top honchos, however, have a different take, one that is greatly comforting to the hundreds of thousands of youngsters with technical education, migrating to the IT hubs in India—Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, and also cities like Pune, Noida—that they need not be scared of the possible disruption due to AI.
