Victims in Staffordshire lost £1.5m over the past year
DATING scam victims in Staffordshire have lost more than £1.5 million over the past three years.
The county's lonely hearts were among thousands of victims to be hit by romance scammers, according to new data.
Based on self-reported losses, Staffordshire victims parted with a collective £1,593,533 after being manipulated.
A total of 287 reports were traced back to Staffordshire, making the average loss experienced by a victim £5,552. That is close to half the UK average of £10,324 (not including Scotland).
