'He descended into a dark hole'

- Sentinel Reporter

A FORMER consultant at Stoke-on-Trent's main hospital has been jailed after he committed a string of sexual offences.

Dr Matthew Isles worked as an ear, nose and throat specialist at the Royal Stoke University Hospital and County Hospital, in Stafford, until his arrest in February.

But he developed an addiction to sex and pornography and communicated in a sexually explicit way on social media platform Bad Guys with a police officer acting as a 14-year-old boy. Police attended his home in Whiston on February 10 and arrested him for the attempted sexual communication with a child. They found 90,000 indecent images and videos on his devices. It was also found he had committed voyeurism and distributed indecent images of children. And they found a 'disturbing' video known as a 'paedophile manual. Now the 53-year-old has been jailed for three years and 10 months at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court.

Prosecutor Hunter Gray said an undercover police officer purporting to be a 14-year-old boy engaged in sexual communication with the defendant between January 25 and February 6 this year on the Bad Guys social media platform.
