Public darshan to be suspended for five hours today for 'Banakalagi' ritual

PUBLIC darshan of the deities at the Gundicha Temple in Puri will be suspended for approximately five hours on Monday to facilitate the observance of the sacred Banakalagi ritual of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra.

As per tradition, the Banakalagi Niti — also known as Shrimukha Sringara — is a revered facial makeover ceremony performed to refresh the divine appearances of the Holy Trinity. The ritual will take place after the second Bhog Mandap and continue from 9 PM to 2 AM, during which time devotees will not be permitte
