India not superpower yet, but doing 'right things' can get it there: Rajan

FORMER RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan has cautioned against declaring India a global superpower prematurely, arguing that while ambition is essential, the country is still decades away from achieving that status and must stay focused on long-term nation-building.

Speaking to entrepreneur Kushal Lodha on a podcast, Rajan said the narrative of India having already arrived as a superpower risks distracting from the hard work that still lies ahead.

Calling India a superpower today, in his view, is premature. The real work lies ahead and will take decades of sustained effort.

Rajan underlined the need for ambition, but warned against confusing aspiration with achievement.

"We should have ambition, we should dream of the world, but we should have a possibility of reaching them, and for that we have to do the homework. You can't dream and say we are there because we're not," he said.
