BIR Files P797-M Tax Evasion vs Illegal Cigarette Traders

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has issued a stern warning against those engaged in the illegal trade of cigarettes following the filing of charges amounting to nearly P797 million in tax deficiencies.

BIR Commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr. announced yesterday that the charges stemmed from two operations targeting large-scale illegal cigarette activities. "We assure the public that all BIR operations against the illicit trade of cigarettes and vapes will result in the filing of criminal cases against those involved. We will raid your warehouses. We will file criminal cases. You will be arrested," Lumagui said.
