AirAsia nears deal to buy 150 aircraft

Low-cost carrier AirAsia is planning to acquire up to 150 aircraft, reportedly either from Airbus or Embraer, to support its strategy of growing its regional fleet, including in the Philippines.
AirAsia boss Tony Fernandes said the airline is set to sign over the next two weeks the purchase order for 150 aircraft that would augment its capacity to fly locally and internationally.
Sources told The STAR that AirAsia executives would be flying to France and Brazil over the next few days to complete the deal as soon as possible.
France is home to aviation giant Airbus, headquartered in Toulouse. AirAsia has entered into a memorandum of understanding with the French manufacturer last week.
