The US is having a cost of living crisis, but Donald Trump isn’t. Last year, he nearly quadrupled his earnings and declared a personal income of $2.2bn. That figure rises to $3.5bn when the earnings of his sons are factored in.
So what? This rapid accumulation of wealth is unprecedented. Presidents are exempt from conflict of interest laws, but past leaders behaved as though they were not. When Jimmy Carter was elected, he put his peanut farm into a blind trust.
