Fiscal deficit touches 17.2% of annual target as of end-July

THE country's fiscal deficit reached 17.2% of the annual target as of the end of July in the current fiscal year (FY25), according to data published by the Controller General of Accounts (CGA) on Friday.
In absolute terms, the fiscal deficit amounted to ₹2,76,945 crore. In comparison, during the same period in FY24, the deficit was much higher, accounting for 33.9% of the Budget Estimates (BE).
