Elderly woman, teenager drown in separate incidents in Cuddalore dist

AN 80-year-old woman, identified as V Muthulakshmi of South Street, Guruvankuppam village, was found dead two days after being washed away in a canal near her village.
According to police, Muthulakshmi had gone to her farmland to collect cashew nuts on Saturday. While returning home in the evening, she attempted to cross a canal. Due to sudden heavy rainfall, she was swept away by the floodwaters.
"Fire and rescue personnel from Mangalampettai fire station carried out search operations for two days," said a police officer from Aaladi police station. "Her body was found on Monday morning in a lake at Mathur village."
