Six-month deadline set to finalise heritage by-laws
The New Indian Express Tirunelveli
|November 03, 2025
TO ensure speedy and transparent approval of construction and repair works in the vicinity of the protected historical sites, the National Monument Authority (NMA) has embarked on finalising the Heritage Bylaws (HBLs) for 141 monuments.
According to officials, the process is expected to be completed within the next six months.
The development follows a directive from the culture minister asking the authority to prioritise preparation of HBLs for monuments that attract the highest number of applications for construction-related permissions. Acting on this, the NMA has identified 294 such heritage sites across the country.
