March 15, 2025

The State-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telecom Nigam Limited (MTNL) have generated ₹1,375 crore through asset monetization as on October 31, 2024, against a target of ₹2,200 crore for FY25.

- Rakesh Kumar @New Delhi

Meeting this target will be difficult this year, according to a Department of Telecommunications (DoT) official, as the asset sale process has not progressed as swiftly as anticipated.

The DoT official attributed the limited success of BSNL and MTNL in monetizing their property to legislative hurdles and the need for permissions from state governments and local bodies. The target was set by the Controller General of Communication Accounts (CGCA) in consultation with Niti Aayog for the monetization of assets from all sources.
