NCERT orders immediate recall of Class 8 textbook after SC verdict

A day after the Supreme Court imposed a blanket ban on the new Class 8 social science book, the National Council for Educational Research and Technology (NCERT) on Friday asked individuals and organisations that have copies of it to return it to its head office in Delhi.
The education body said that it sold only 38 copies of the book on Monday, the only day it was sold from its Delhi office.
Its advisory said, “The NCERT requests any individual or organisation in possession of the NCERT textbook ‘Exploring Society: India and Beyond’, Social Science Grade 8 Part 2, or any material related to it, to return it to the Head, Department of Education in Social Sciences or the Publication Division, NCERT, Sri Aurobindo Marg, New Delhi, at the earliest.”
