Santi Bastwad Villagers Want Fair Probe in Holy Book Burning Incident

SANTI Bastwad village in Belagavi district has witnessed growing unrest following an alleged incident of burning the holy Quran and the subsequent police investigation which locals claim has led to the harassment of innocent youth.
Hundreds of villagers under the leadership of Santi Bastwad Gram Panchayat president and members and some Hindu outfits took out a huge protest rally from Rani Channamma Circle to the Deputy Commissioner's office and submitted a memorandum to the district administration, demanding a fair investigation into the matter.
Some unknown miscreants reportedly burned the Quran and other religious holy books belonging to the Muslim community on May 11. The incident triggered immediate concern and police action, but villagers alleged that innocent Hindu youths have been wrongfully detained and mistreated in connection with the case.
