|June 04, 2026
AS Nepal’s new government begins settling into office, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday reiterated India’s commitment to strengthening ties with Kathmandu, describing Nepal as a “priority partner” under New Delhi’s Neighbourhood First policy during a meeting with Ravi Lamichhane, chairman of Nepal's ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).
The meeting comes at a significant juncture in India-Nepal relations, with both countries seeking to deepen cooperation while navigating recent diplomatic sensitivities, including differences over unresolved border issues. Welcoming Lamichhane, who is on a visit to India at the invitation of BJP leadership, Modi highlighted New Delhi's readiness to work closely with Nepal’s new political leadership to further expand bilateral engagement across sectors.
