Morocco earthquake toll goes past 2,000

AN aftershock rattled Moroccans on Sunday as they toiled to rescue survivors of the strongest earthquake in more than a century. This disaster killed more than 2,000 persons, a number that is expected to rise, according to a report in Associated Press.

Morocco earthquake toll goes past 2,000

The United Nations estimated that 300,000 people were affected by Friday night's magnitude 6.8 quake. As many as 2,059 have been injured including 1,404 in critical condition.

Survivors slept for a night in the open. Neighbours were still searching for survivors buried on the slopes. The old city of Marrakech suffered extensive damage.
