ACADEMY teenager Jack Whittaker has reflected on a valuable learning experience after scoring in Sunderland U21s' 2-1 defeat to Darlington at Blackwell Meadows in midweek.

The 18-year-old grabbed the Black Cats' equaliser early in the second half, finishing off a lively move following good work from Charlie Dinsdale. But beyond the goal, Whittaker was quick to acknowledge the bigger picture.
