Tribute to father and son who died after car crash
The Journal
|September 03, 2025
TRIBUTES have been paid to a dad and his 12-year-old son who died following a collision in South Shields on Saturday. Shortly after 8.55pm on Saturday, police received a report of a one-vehicle collision in John Reid Road, near the New Mill Inn.
It was reported that a white Skoda Octavia car was travelling in John Reid Road when, for reasons yet to be established, it came off the carriageway.
Emergency services attended the scene, where two occupants of the Octavia, Peter Webb, aged 40, and his 12-year-old son, Ben Webb both from South Shields were both found to have suffered serious injuries.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
A man in his thirties also sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment, where he currently remains. He has since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Yesterday Peter and Ben's family said their world had been “completely torn apart” as they paid an emotional tribute to them.
