Value of past school players’ association

The Island

|

August 11, 2025

These are organisations formed by past school players to maintain connections, support the school's sports programmes, and promote camaraderie among past players.

- RNA de Silva

These associations often organise events, raise funds, and provide mentorship to current players of the particular sports activity. It is heartening to note that such associations actively exist in many schools in Sri Lanka. Some schools have alumni branch organisations in other countries such as the UK, the US, Australia, Canada and the UAE.

The culture of a school is best known by its students. The set of values and ideals that schools instill in their students become a life philosophy that is put into action as they become alumni and go out into the world. Therefore, the alumni perspective, formed by the values that their alma mater inculcated in them, need to be valued in retaining the strength of a school’s culture. As such alumni voices are invaluable in discussions about the direction in which a school is headed. This ensures that a school’s mission is understood, sustained, and empowered as it grows.
