Rising star Kalhara Idupa ran a remarkable anchor leg to clinch gold in the men's 4x400 metres relay as Sri Lanka capped a memorable evening winning two golds, two silvers and a bronze at the World Athletics bronze lable meet in Bhubaneswar India on Sunday.

Thrower Rumesh Tharanga was the star of the evening for Sri Lanka after his record breaking throw. His throw landed on an uncharted territory in the land of the World Champion. Indian star Neraj Chopra was not there to challenge him. From his very first throw -- world class 86.50mhe was the athlete to beat.

National record holder Sumeda Ranasinghe who had already reached qualifying standards for the World Championship settled for bronze with a throw of 80.65 metres. Now, Sri Lanka has two athletes who have reached direct qualifying standards for next month's World Championships, a remarkable achievement.
