Tungsten mine 'could be open next year'
The Herald
|May 16, 2025
PLYMOUTH’S tungsten mine could be in production next year after investors pumped in £900,000 and the price of the mineral is forecast to skyrocket.
Tungsten West Plc, the mining company which wants to restart production at the Hemerdon mine near Plympton, said it had received the cash and will use it to continue with a feasibility study.
It now plans to publish the full study later this year and said it will lead to a further financing round which will enable the company to ramp up work with the plan to restart tungsten and tin production in the second half of 2026. Meanwhile, China's export restrictions are shoving up the price of the metal, which Tungsten West said will make the Plymouth mine even more vital.
