South Korea President faces flak over deadly floods and climate crisis plans

South Korea's president is facing questions over the country's response to devastating flash floods and landslides that have killed 46 people and displaced 5,500 people
Hundreds of houses were destroyed, 30,000 hectares (about 74,000 acres) of farmland were damaged and 700,000 livestock were killed when torrential rains lashed the country last weekend. Four people are still missing,
The president, Yoon Suk Yeol, blamed inadequate preparations and acknowledged that "this kind of extreme weather event will become commonplace". He urged action to deal with the climate crisis, but environmental activists have questioned that commitment.
"We have once again witnessed how unsafe a society is that only pays lip service to climate crisis response," said Kim Seo-gyeong, a member of the Youth 4 Climate Action group leading the Korean arm of the global school climate strike movement.
