I've waited for this for years': fans in the pink as Barbie finally arrives in cinemas

Following a year-long wink-wink, think-pink marketing blitz that shaded every corner of the public consciousness in Pantone 219C, devotees headed to the cinema for the first screenings of Greta Gerwig's sparkly tribute to the wasp-waisted Mattel doll.
The film, which stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling and whose production budget was $145m (£113m), is expected to boost the soft box office sales of late, alongside this summer's other star-studded release, Christopher Nolan's atomic bomb drama Oppenheimer.
A contingent of pop culture obsessives have made sport of the double feature, and plenty of TikTokers have opinions on the correct way to do "Barbenheimer". The cinema chain AMC reported that more than 20,000 people had bought tickets to see Barbie and Oppenheimer on 21 July, their US release day.
