Blizzard warnings and deep snow after coldest night of year

Further heavy snow and blizzards are forecast for the Midlands and north of England over the next two days as wintry weather and sub-zero temperatures return to Britain.
The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning of "strong winds bringing blizzard conditions" for an area between Stoke-on-Trent and Durham from 3pm today until 2pm tomorrow.
Snowfalls of 10cm-20cm in most places and up to 30cm-40cm in the worst-affected areas could combine with strong winds to cause "significant disruption", it warned.
The forecaster also issued several yellow weather warnings for snow covering much of the UK until tomorrow. Sub-zero overnight temperatures are expected until the end of the week, after Tuesday's dipped to the coldest night of the year so far. Temperatures at Kinbrace in the Highlands dropped to a low of -15.4C overnight, the coldest March temperature recorded since 2010.
